I want to know why i am all of a sudden getting spam in my yahoo account when i never have before?

Up until this year, i never received (or hardly ever) any Spam, now all of a sudden my inbox is starting to get swamped with online, viagra, enlargement and lotto winner spam emails. I know y7mail is the newer version of yahoo mail but surely the filters work the same across both email formats?
