In Microsoft Word, the fonts are lost. Only 3 fonts visible Device Font 10,12 and 17?

One rapid session of multiple internet explorer windows opened simultaneously. I could not stop it. Finally when I restarted, word is not showing regular fonts. all my old word doents are showing in one of the three fonts mentioned above. No ariel, timesnewroman is available. How do i bring it back. In C:\windows\fonts I can see all the fonts. But still these are not availabe in ms word. Please help. I re-installed MS office professional 2003 and also within word I went to help to detect and repair to retain default settings. No improvement yet.
