Are there any negative effects to drinking alcohol that has not been distilled.?

Lets say you make rum or vodka, and after adding the yeast and letting it ferment, you decide not to distill it, simply drinking the solution right there? I know the alcohol concentration will be very diluted, but is there anything else that happens to the solution? what are the negative effects of drinking the alcohol right then and there with no distillation?
